1. Center for Whale Research-Nonprofit organization researching and tracking Pacific whale, dolphin and porpoise populations. Includes records of Orcas in the Puget Sound (photos as well as audio). Visitors can interact with a live Orca cam situated in the San Juan islands.
  2. Chesapeake Bay Foundation - Independent organization begun in 1978 dedicated to restoring and protecting the Chesapeake Bay and its tributary rivers. Many issues parallel those of Puget Sound. This organization includes education efforts with Maryland school districts.
  3. Coastal Habitats in Puget Sound-Part of the USGeological Survey. Coastal Habitats in Puget Sound (CHIPS) is an interdisciplinary collaboration to coordinate, integrate, and link USGS studies with Puget Sound Nearshore Ecosystem Restoration Project (PSNERP) goals and objectives. Studies currently focus on effects of urbanization on nearshore ecosystems, restoration of large river deltas and recovery of nearshore ecosystems.
  4. Friends of the Cedar River Watershed - Private, non-profit organization begun in 1996 with goals of ensuring the long-term stewardship of the watershed, providing and promoting environmental education an educating public about importance of the Cedar River Watershed.
  5. Northwest StraitsAgency-company working to help clean up Puget Sound by removing left over commercial fishing gear from the Puget Sound.
  6. Puget Sound Partnership- Washington State agency established in 2007. Governed by a seven member leadership council, appointed by Governor Gregoire. Self-described as a community effort of citizens, governments, tribes, scientists and businesses working togethre to restore and protect Puget Sound.
  7. Puget Sound Starts Here -Puget Sound Starts Here is a partnership of regional governments dedicated to improving water quality in Puget Sound and our local lakes, rivers and streams. We are a consortium of 57 cities and counties – called STORM (Stormwater Outreach for Regional Municipalities), Washington State Puget Sound Partnership and Washington State Department of Ecology.
  8. Puget Sound Off-"The mission of Puget SoundOff is to provide youth with a forum for discussion, artistic expression, and action as a way to empower and encourage youth to have a strong voice. Links to environmental concers for the region.
  9. Puget Sound Nearshore Ecosystem Restoration Project-Partnership between local, state and tribal governments in Washington State, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and other federal agencies, industries and environmental organizations. Linked to Washington State through Department of Fish and Wildlife. Established in 2001.
  10. People for Puget Sound- Citizen's group established in 1991 to protect and restore the health of Puget Sound land and waters through education and action.
  11. Puget Sound Clean Air Agency- Government "special purpose" agency established in 1967, charged with monitoring and reporting on air quality in Puget Sound region. Actions include issuing burn bans and smog alerts.

  14. Whale Trail-Made of up variety of northwest groups, the Whale Trail is a series of sites around the Northwest where the public may view orcas, other whales and marine mammals from shore.
